A Message from the Principal

  • Dear Southern Middle School Families,

My name is Hope Migliaccio and I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Southern Middle School. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead alongside a great staff at a school full of rich traditions that strive for excellence in education and community partnership. I am enthusiastic about joining this community where we get to work collaboratively to empower our students to seek their full potential.

I began my educational career in elementary school in Central California, 29 years ago. Throughout my 29 years in education, I’ve taught multiple grade levels with most of my experience teaching middle school English/Language Arts. I am a certified teacher of ESL and I have a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Before moving to Reading, PA, I had the pleasure of being an Assistant Principal of a middle school for three years and then a principal of that school for five. In 2020, I accepted a position as a principal in an urban K-8 school in Sacramento, CA and worked with an amazing staff and parent community through the pandemic.  Last year, I had the pleasure of working as an assistant principal at Reading High School. I am excited, however, to be back in Middle School again.

In addition to my professional achievements, my greatest accomplishment is my family. I am a wife to my loving, supportive husband, Todd, who is also an educator, and I have two grown sons and a daughter-in-law.  We moved to PA 2 years ago and live in the community with our three dogs.

Over the past several weeks, I have been working closely with our new Assistant Principal, Denise Rathman, to learn more about our school, community, and the unique needs of our students and staff. Together, we are committed to embracing the positive traditions and practices that are already in place at Southern Middle School while working diligently to ensure success for the future of our campus and the students who attend. My motto is, “Students First, Every Day,” and I believe all children should receive an exemplary education in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Together we can help our children excel and provide them with an education that will prepare them for high school and beyond.

I am honored and humbled to serve as the new principal and look forward to meeting the Southern school community members. My door is always open to you, and I sincerely welcome your input and support. I am excited about all we will accomplish together for our children and look forward to celebrating our collective success this school year.

    Kind Regards,

    Mrs. Hope Migliaccio

    Principal, Southern Middle School
